Anyone hopes to hit the jackpot everytime they played the lottery.
This woman named Michelle Shuffler, of Granite Falls, bought two tickets worth $10,000 and $1 million each, at stores 22 miles apart.
Shuffler said she and her husband don't normally play the lottery but on Sunday, they tried their luck and decided to give it a shot.
The couple stopped at the Cubbard Express gas station in Lenoir, N.C., and won their $10,000 on a Million Dollar Fever scratch-off ticket.
Both of them were incomplete disbelief after winning the first prize.
Seizing the momentum, they wanted to test the odds one more time.
"We saw that the game had a million dollar prize," Shuffler said. "So we decided, 'Why not try to beat the odds again?'"
The couple went to the Murphy Express in Granite Falls, about 22 miles from the Lenoir gas station they won at earlier.
Without hesitation, they bought another Million Dollar Fever ticket and won the $1 million. "It's a miracle," Shuffler said.
She claimed her winnings on Monday. The lottery said she chose to receive the $1 million in annual payments of $50,000. The alternative was a lump sum of $600,000.
Shuffler plans to use the money to help put her children through college and prepare for her retirement.
She's already received her first $50,000, which after taxes, comes out to about $35,000.
For the time being, she said she's still amazed at her winnings. "It's quite astonishing," Shuffler said.
What a lucky day for them.
